The mission of Frequency TV is intertwined with supporting and expanding the educational experience of the Columbia College Chicago student body. College-wide, our production and distribution tools are utilized by students and faculty. Our staff of students are experienced peers who are active members in the classroom. We work directly with students on actualizing their ideas in a formal, yet relatable setting. We consider students goals, abilities, and aspirations, and use our resources to match their intentions with our shared production execution.
“Frequency TV is a tremendous resource for the entirety of Columbia College Chicago, and especially for my television studio production students. They produce slick professional content aimed at the college community and giving students valuable experience producing media content for a variety of platforms. My students interface with Frequency TV producers during their studio production learning community classes. The Frequency TV producers guide and mentor my students through the complex pre-production process and right up to taping or live streaming day. They model the focus and commitment necessary to see a project to completion in a way only a more experienced peer could do. They also demonstrate the proper procedures and methods needed to get professional results, helping my students learn essential skills they can take forward with them into their media creation careers. As an instructor I am grateful for the help the Frequency TV team provides my students as they begin their educational journey towards becoming professional television producers.”

Cinema & Television Arts
Frequency TV is a vital contributor to several Cinema and Television Arts course curriculums as both a production organization and a distribution platform. In courses such as Television: Arts Production Frequency TV provides a hands-on approach to guide first semester Television students through what is typically their first experience in a live television studio setting. Our support in the classroom extends to advanced level courses such as Masters Workshop in Sketch Comedy: Directing & Producing and The Television Producer.
Courses at Columbia College Chicago can utilize Frequency TV as a distribution network to air live and recoded video content through our on-campus monitors and our live web-stream.
Newsbeat is one such program that takes advantage of our livestream platform to air their show each week. Produced by students in the Communications and Cinema & Television Arts Departments in the Directing and Production: Live Broadcast course, Newsbeat takes an in-depth look into the local and international news of the week.
Radio & WCRX fm
Frequency TV works with Columbia College’s radio program to accompany students audio projects with video productions. Our producers work with students at WCRX fm, Columbia College Chicago’s student-run radio station, to bring visual elements that are driven by the students sonic storytelling medium. Our contributions to the radio students curriculum provide them unique experiences in producing distinct video work, and portfolio pieces they can carry with them into their future careers.
Communications: Public Relations
Frequency TV has served as the production crew under the direction of Public Relations students for their real-world Public Relation campaigns for local clients. Our production know-how and distribution platforms have provided students professionally produced PR campaigns for their portfolios, and the means to actively track viewer engagement to report the success back to their clients.
